i heart valentines

I am NOT a big fan of Valentine's Day, at ALL. As a matter of fact, I told Nick I don't want to celebrate it this year (and I may or may not have made him promise not to even buy a card). Why? Well for one thing, I am a veryyyyy lucky girl. Nick will randomly come home with a sweet card or fresh flowers for me on any given day. So in some ways, I get "Valentine's Day" a lot around here:o) I just don't like the idea of companies being able to scam consumers by marking up the prices of gifts, cards and flowers for one day. I'm sure most of you feel the same way. I know Nick works way too hard to go spend $50-100 on roses that would be half that price the very next day. Lame.

I do however, love to celebrate Valentine's Day with blog friends! There's something so fun about getting assigned to swap with someone who lives fairly close to you and learning new things about them! It's even more fun when you get a surprise package in the mail, like I did today!!!!

My blog buddy, Samantha, must have known me in another life! She filled this box with EVERYTHING that I love! Thank you girl! I got lots of baking goodies, nail polish, a delicious candle that smells like the islands, Southern Living magazine (one of my absolute favs) and some stuff to use in my kitchen! This made my day, even Nick was impressed to learn about this swap! Thanks to Neely and her friends for setting it up!

I also got this adorable Hello Kitty valentine bundle from my friend Charisse at work! How sweet!

Things I Love About Snowy Days

after finally getting home from a 4 hour commute from work (it usually takes me only 5 minutes to get to work) because of the gridlock traffic and natural disasters stemming from the snow...I got a goodnights sleep and woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed...why??

I HAVE THE DAY OFF!!!

Announcing...Deliciously Divine! My new cooking blog!

It's been a few months in the making, you know, my cooking "talents" and all.

But now I'm FINALLY ready to share my journey with all of you:o)

I am putting the finishing touches and posts on my new cooking blog today and tomorrow you will all be able to follow me and comment as well as try out some of the delicious things that I've created.

I'd like to give a great big shout out to my boyfriend Nick, who has taken on the role of guinea pig and official dishwasher. Without both of these efforts and patience, this all would not be possible.

Hi Friends, It's been awhile, I know...

Since I moved to VA, I've taken up an obsession with cooking (you can follow most of what I do through twitter-search for me @akolachny) and I can honestly say its one of my favorite hobbies now! When I'm out shopping I find myself always looking for a new tool or something to adorn my kitchen with!

I've been asked by several people to start a blog to keep up with my progress with cooking complete with recipes, pics, tips, neat ideas, etc. So I thought, why not!? I think this is a really exciting idea so I want to give it a shot:o)

I am looking for ideas on my blog layout. I want a really killer design that will grab my viewers attention! Do you have an idea to help me with? Any tips to go about designing my own? I'd like to get this up and running within the next few days.

A quick heads up, to promote my blog, I am offering to do a giveaway through one of your blogs! I am doing two things:

1) a starbucks gift card (obviously-I am in love with my new job)

and
